Enriched Air diving (sometimes called "nitrox") is
recreational diving's latest tool in the struggle to safely extend no decompression
time. Especially in the 15 meter/50 foot to 30 meter/100 foot range, enriched air
(depending upon the blend) can significantly lengthen your no decompression times
for a single depth dive. A PADI "Enriched Air (Nitrox)" certification is designed to teach you the procedures for safe, recreational no decompression diving with enriched air. The course covers the equipment and procedural concerns involving enriched air. You'll learn how to plan dives and determine your no decompression limits and your oxygen exposure limits with enriched air. You'll learn the proper procedures for obtaining enriched air, as well as the hazards associated with handling and diving with enriched air. |
